Auction Round Up

There is not a lot happening at auction at the moment, but there are still some attractive finds if you are looking. This Lot 670 for sale on 18 April is an early Victorian Adam and Eve needlework sampler by Elizabeth Church, dated 1838. It has traditional designs of a house, flowering shrubs, insects, animals and birds, which are all enclosed in a floral meander border. It measures 41 x 33cm (approximately 16"x13"). The estimate for this sampler is £150 - £250 and it is for sale by Bearnes and Co. Click here for more details.
Golding Young and Thomas Mawer have Lot 62 for auction tomorrow 4 April. This is an 18th century silk needlework sampler by Anne Ross dated 1766. It has biblical characters and animals. It measures 54cm x 44cm (approximately 22"x18") and has an estimate of £600 - £800. Click here for more details.
Also on 18 April is the auction of Lot 100 at Penrith, Farmers' and Kidd's, an early 19th century sampler worked by Elizabeth Hight in 1824. Stitched in polychrome threads, it has a title panel over various stylised foliate designs and is enclosed in a trailing foliate border. It is in a moulded ebonised frame under glass and measures 42cm x 26cm (approximately 17" x 10") and comes with an estimate of £120 - £180. Click here for more details.
