Another lovely German sampler book this time by the doyenne of German Samplers - Eva Maria Leszner.
This hard back volume with German text has just under 100 pages and pictures some wonderful samplers.
Many of the samplers shown are from the famous Conneman collection that used to be exhibited in Celle before the special museum that housed it sadly closed its doors.
The samplers presented begin with the earliest known German sampler from the first half of the 16th century, some decades before the English Jane Bostocke sampler of 1598.
The samplers are not all from Germany - there are examples from other countries, like this delicious decorated alphabet sampler from the Netherlands below.
In an amongst the illustrations are a number of pattern pages containing excerpts from the samplers.
This book is in excellent condition.
