It is a shame that you can no longer wander into the V&A in London and browse at will the racks of samplers that used to be stored there, it was a continual source of inspiration to be enjoyed whenever the occasion presented itself.
The V&A Collection is world famous for good reason, it has such a wide-variety of samplers, including the earliest - like this German sampler of the first half of the 16th century - as well as the more famous Jane Bostocke sampler.
There are Italian, French, Dutch and German samplers in the collection - this one is from Italy.
Many are catalogued in this 140 page softback book.
There are over 110 image plates plus stitch diagrams.
The book is in excellent, near new condition.
