This wonderful hard backed book describes international samplers in the Lorraine Mootz Collection.
Lorraine is a great lady and did sterling work as Docent for the Conneman Museum in Celle, Germany.
16 samplers in this book are charted for you to try your hand at making your own.
All the above samplers are amongst the ones that have charts.
Lorraine has a fabulous Vierlande sampler and there is a wonderful quote taken from a Harper's Magazine of June 1885. An elderly woman from the Vierlande (an area to the south of Hamburg) asserted: More than ten generations ago my ancestors emigrated from North Holland, bringing with them all their household goods. Our costumes are Dutch, and our language resembles the sweet speech of the Netherlanders. No, we are not Germans. We are Vierlanders, and we always shall be.
The book is bilingual, with parallel texts in English and German. The book has 144 pages and separate individual pattern sheets in the back of the book. The book is in new condition.
And yes, there is a chart for the beautiful sampler of stocking clock patterns below - one of my all-time favourites!
