SOLD Janet Arnold - Patterns of Fashion 1560-1620 * £15 €25 $55 Shipping Included (Australia / New Zealand $70)

2 November 1998 was a sad day indeed when we learnt of the premature death of Janet Arnold, costume historian and friend to many textile enthusiasts. Her historical pattern books are a tour de force in every sense. The books are meticulously researched, beautifully illustrated and the nearest to design perfection I have seen.
In this book, an oversized book of 128 pages in good condition, which documents the height of Elizabethan and Jacobean fashion, examples of costume, male as well as female, are drawn from a number of sources, from art work to sculpted sepulchres.
Details abound and I was so taken by the cross-over design between woven motifs and embroidered motifs that appeared in the early pattern books by, amongst others, Rosina Fuerst.
So here you can see the illustrations and below the pattern charts, ready to be scaled up.
And, yes, there is a pattern in this book for the fabulous Margaret Laton jacket. Something for you to make this weekend?
