Textile Taxidermy with Donya Coward @ West Dean * 23-27 March 2014

You may have seen Donya's work in some of the stylish magazines and studios, her work seems to be everywhere at the moment, particularly her wall-mounted zebra heads. Such is her popularity that she has been invited to share her talents with a few lucky course attendees at West Dean this year. Her workshop is designed to be an introduction to sculpting a three-dimensional wall mounted Terrier head using textile techniques in the style of taxidermy. The workshop will focus on up-cycling waste and redundant materials and sculpting them into form and features of your dog portrait. The textile skills used will be hand embroidery and crochet techniques. The scale of your piece will be roughly on a scale of 10cm x 10cm x 15cm (4" x 4" x 6"). Your piece can be adapted to a Jack Russell/Daschund/Border Terrier/Shnauzer or Highland Terrier, should you wish. Donya Coward trained in knitwear at Nottingham Trent University. She works to commission making unique sculptural textile animal portraits. Her work is exhibited in Paul Smith in London and Paris.
The course runs at beautifully situated West Dean College (near Chichester, UK) for the short week of 23 - 27 March 2014. The fee is £394 with 5% reduction for on-line bookings. Click here for more details and to book.
