Norfolk School Sampler For Auction & More


Woolley and Wallis of Salisbury have 10 samplers for auction on 7 January 2014. Lot 138 comprises two samplers : At the top of the image, a George III needlework sampler by Priscilla Carroll, dated 1785 measuring 15" x 10" (38 x 27.3cm) and below, the Norfolk sampler worked by Neo(?) Gerrarde at age 12 years - a lovely example of a lozenge form sampler from this school. The estimate for both is £100 - £200.


Lot 136, also with Woolley and Wallis, is a  Regency needlework sampler by Lucy Dance, Nottingham 1819, worked in silks with a honeysuckle border to a Remember now thy Creator verse. It measures 16" x 12" (41.3 x 31cm) and is in a glazed ebonised and gilt frame. The estimate is £200 - £300.
Lot 133 also from Woolley and Wallis is an early Victorian needlework sampler by Emma Bottomer, dated April 1st 1840. This sampler measures 12" square (31cm) and is in a glazed mahogany frame. Last but not least this week is Lot 623 for sale at Fieldings Auctioneers on 11 January 2014. It is a rather lovely late19th Century needlework sampler detailed with a central panel of flowers and bordered by leaves, fruits and insects. it measures 28.5cm by 36cm and has an estimate of £50 - £80.
