This simple, early Victorian needlework verse sampler worked in red is signed and dated 1848 by Mary Barrell aged 8 years and is dedicated to Lucy Mary. It measures 34 x 19.5cm and is Lot 261 in the Lacy, Scot and Knight Auction with an estimate of £80 - £120 - click here for more details. The verse is taken from a broadside ballad published in the mid 1850s when railways were exciting and new mysteries.
