Amidst all the excitement of the Betty Ring Sampler auction, there was another stunning auction at Pook and Pook Inc in Philadelphia which included around 50 very interesting samplers. The one you see above is a rare French sampler of 1805. There are very few French samplers now in existence of this style depicting altars. This beauty by Marguerite Michel was an absolute snip at $119. Well done purchaser!
Hannah Poole stitched at least two samplers at Westtown School, one of them, this darned pattern sampler of 1813 had an estimate of $1,000 - $2,000 but finally realized $5,688.
This absolutely charming English sampler by Rosanah Moth stitched in 1848 with its dedication to Emulation realized $618.
And how amazing is this! A fabulous Charles II bead work basket - so rare. Given a cautious estimate of $2,000 to $4,000, the hammer fell at a few dollars change from $25,000. To see all the samplers and results for yourself just click here.
