Another Treasure from Aylesbury Vale Embroiderers' Guild
I had never seen a sampler quite like this before until I was the invited guest of the Aylesbury Vale Embroiderers' Guild last month. It belongs to the wonderful needlework collection of Ann Mary who also owns the needlework book we saw on an earlier blog. This Italian sampler of 16 insets including ecru Damask pattern darns is so beautifully presented. Worked in 1852 it is the work of Angela Scarrone. For some reason it arrived on British shore and was purchased at an antique sale. I wonder if any of the Italian blog readers can shed any light on it - are there more samplers like this in Italy?
My thanks again to Anita for providing us with images and to Ann Mary for letting me share them with you.

I have never seen anything like this - it's stunning!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very much as a quilt, never seen anything similar.
