Mirror Images - Silvia from Italy

Now that all the judging for a Mirror To My Art is complete, I can take a little time to explore some of the entries and show you the technical artistry in the detail. Silvia entered this wonderful decorated compact mirror and purse. What strikes me right away is the elegant, low-key simplicity of the design and the echoing of the principal motif on the purse. This is classic styling indeed! The trio of roses on a lace grid, encircled by two raised bands, the outer with picots, is just perfect for this circular space.

When you look closely, you can see that the simple design statement of the dimensional rose trio is underpinned by some very clever and skilful needlemade lace, the tension of which had to be meticulously controlled to provide a regular all over grid

Here you can see just how much skill was involved in the making of the compact cover - and below the whispered design worked in trapunto fiorentino on the carrying purse. I think this is a thrilling piece of design and execution. Brava, Silvia.
