Bearnes Hampton and Littlewood Auction * 11 & 12 July 2012 * Exeter UK
This pair of late 18th or early 19th century silk pictures depicting ladies in 17th century attire, contained within fringed borders and enclosed in tortoiseshell frames, each panel 40 x 17cm is Lot 582 in the auction and has an estimate of £300 - £500.
There are also a number of samplers for auction. Above is a George III needlework example with short verse and decorated overall with figures, flowering shrubs, trees, birds, animals and insects, worked by Elizabeth Pinchbeck, and dated 1806, 41 x 32cm. The estimate for this Lot 611 is £250 - £350.
Lot 609 above is a George III sampler with central verse surrounded with flowering shrubs, trees, flowers, birds and angels, within a floral meander border, worked in coloured silks of reds, greens, blues and browns, by Ann Hall, aged 13 and dated 1816, 46 x 31.5cm, contained in a rosewood frame. Here the estimate is £300 - £400.
This last Lot 614 is a pair of samplers. The first is another George III needlework sampler with alphabet, verse and banded decoration of birds, insects, flowering shrubs, figures and animals within a floral border, by Ann Corfield Pontesbury, aged 11 and dated June 1st, 1813, 43 x 33cm.
