West-Town School 1801 Sampler for Auction in Bridport, Dorset, UK
We now have a slightly better image - though not great - of the West Town sampler for auction on 23 September 2010 by Dukes of Bridport, Dorset, UK at Melplash Court Lot No 247. It is a George III sampler by “Massey Gibbons West-Town School 1801”, and measures 10.25” x 10.25”. The estimate is £100-200 for the pair. Remember you need to register with the auction house before you can leave a bid. Somebody asked me about what happens if you win an auction and cannot pick the item up - which is obviously going to be the case if you are more than 50 miles away. The important thing to know is that the auction house just sells the item and sorts out the money. There the responsibility of the auction house ends. They will not pack up the item for you; they won't post the item to you. However, they do work with companies that are insured to do this work, and if you win the auction and need the item sending to you, then it will be to this company that you will be talking. Give yourself a head start and when you register to bid, get a contact email or phone number for the auction house packers and start talking to them early to find out exactly how they work and what they will do and what you need to do - and, of course, how much it will cost. Good luck - I do hope this sampler finds an appreciative home.
