Tennants of Leyburn are holding a special costume exhibition from 21-27 October (excluding Sunday) with a sale of the items taking place on Friday 28 October startin at 10.30am. The exhibition is open 10am-4pm daily and entrance is free. Sarah from Tennants says that the exhibition mainly comes from one vendor who has collected costume for over 30 years to give talks on, dating from 1750 to today and it seemed such a shame to sell it as we would usually. Instead this gives the general public a chance to view how costume progressed with several related items sewing accessories, samplers, and accessories. It will be split into 5 time capsules 1750-1800, 1800-1850, 1850-1900. 1900-1950 and 1950 to today. Each period will be set up with furniture and paintings contemporary to that period. It will be a wonderful opportunity to see at close hand some fabulous costume.
