I also have Sarah Philpott's sampler (Jane's sister) stitched in the same year also in Ramsgate. I wonder if there are any relationships between these Leacock samplers and the Philpott samplers I own?Theresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06256135412273734149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385848468383267674.post-42246925002324464002010-03-10T21:02:01.234+00:002010-03-10T21:02:01.234+00:00Thank you so much for all your helpful contributio...Thank you so much for all your helpful contributions - this just gets more and more interesting.N E E D L E P R I N Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05016259421156728225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385848468383267674.post-1473218994908858582010-03-10T20:35:58.114+00:002010-03-10T20:35:58.114+00:00I also live in Hampshire and have never heard of a...I also live in Hampshire and have never heard of a Leacock School - Laycock seems a good suggestion.

However you could try the Hampshire Records Office

http://www3.hants.gov.uk/archives.htm

to see if they know anything.Cda00ukhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08192939979611916958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385848468383267674.post-56724542143921336172010-03-10T19:30:04.428+00:002010-03-10T19:30:04.428+00:00Well, I live in Hampshire UK and grew up In Surrey...Well, I live in Hampshire UK and grew up In Surrey - not a million miles away from Haslemere, but I've never heard of a village called Leacock. I Googled it and there is one in Pennsylvania.
Regards
Suesulphursuehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14901998374458654970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385848468383267674.post-10872596930546625522010-03-10T18:06:39.219+00:002010-03-10T18:06:39.219+00:00I love a mystery and I was like gosh I have heard ...I love a mystery and I was like gosh I have heard of Elizabeth Philpot but could not remember why. I took out my school books in Anthropology and lo and behold there was Elizabeth's name. Well she was one of the first Fossil collectors. She did move to London and here is a Wikipedia article on her. Hope this is a start for you. If these are the one and same person.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_PhilpotKathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03190785307385803444noreply@blogger.com
